It’s that time of year again … the weather starts to turn cooler, schools start back … and college football gets under way!

On Saturday the boys in scarlet and gray – The Ohio State Buckeyes – will take field in the legendary Horseshoe to play the Youngstown Penguins. Game time is 12:00pm. Don’t be late!

If you have Time Warner Cable, and like myself, don’t have tickets to the game, at least we’ll be able to watch the game this year thanks to the near-last-minute negotiations between TWC and the Big Ten Network.

Leading the team this year, as usual, will be the one and only … TBDBITL … that’s The Best Damn Band In The Land for those of you not “in the know”.

Here are 2 audio samples for your auditory pleasure:

TBDBITL – Across the Field

TBDBITL – Buckeye Battle Cry

And the song that everyone loves to hear TBDBITL play, but no one knows the story behind:

Now if you’re a big Buckeyes fan you’re wondering why I haven’t mentioned Script Ohio yet … well here it is!
Shown here is the legendary Quad Script Ohio, which is normally done during week one, along with the Alumni Band.

And here it is being performed:

So you may be asking yourself by now … why are you focusing on the band so much?

The answer would be … drum roll … I too was in marching band – in high school just north of The Ohio State University. I wasn’t cut out to be an elite marching band member that TBDBITL would have wanted, so sadly my marching days ended in 1991, but they are still some of the most rich memories that I have.

I had to look around, but I finally found it … a picture of me in my marching band uniform
This is from 1989 – either the end of my Sophomore year, or beginning of my Junior year.

Yes, we wore white spats over our polished black shoes, and furry “Q-tip” hats.

“Ok, I get it, you live in Ohio and you love the Buckeyes … but why!?!?”

Maybe this will help explain …

And, here’s some more reasons:

I don’t live in Columbus, or even in Franklin County, but I used to … and once a Buckeye … always a Buckeye!

Go over to http://sleepyrappers.com/index.html and show ‘em some love for the songs/videos.

Here’s one more audio track (and lyrics) for you…

OK, OK .. enough videos and such. If you can’t tell by now why it’s GREAT to be a BUCKEYE, you’ll just never understand. You should move to that state up north and free up some more space for future BUCKEYES.

About the football…
Now don’t get me wrong … I LOVE watching the Buckeyes football team win … and especially when we stomp the shit out of that team up north. I’m just what you would call a band geek. It’s always been ‘my thing’.

But, you can be sure I’ll be glued to the TV – one way or another – on Saturday!.

So in closing … I’ll offer a hearty O-H if you’ll yell back I-O!

And remember always … Ann Arbor is a whore!

GO BUCKEYES!
